An interview with Anna and Walker. Meet Zenosyne
The band’s name, pronounced zee-no-sign, references the feeling that time keeps going faster. Formed in Fall 2015, this fXmmX fronted Birminghamian two-piece churns a heavy vibe that layers shoegaze timbers, with some songs having synthesizer or sampler bases in lieu of guitar. They’ve been described as “droney post punk” and “for fans of: getting lost in your head and coming out on top.”
Band Members:
Anna Thomical and Walker Yacney How would you explain your band in three adjectives?
Anna: lofty, experimental, spooky
Walker: musical, human
What are yall currently listening to?
Anna: At this very moment, Bauhaus, but it greatly varies-- lately G.L.O.S.S. have been helping wake me up on my early morning drive to work, and True Widow’s new Avvolgere has also been in regular rotation. Tim Hecker is one of my autumnal go-tos.
Walker: crickets
Icons/Influence?
Walker: Elvis, Daft Punk, Melvins
Anna: Boards of Canada, Autechre, Slowdive, Portishead, and many many more What is the most bizarre thing that has happened while yall were on stage?
Anna: Right before one of our sets my halter top came unbuttoned and fell down in the front. I don’t think anyone noticed since it was just for a sec, but someone in front of the stage was wearing beads so I asked them for some of their beads, and I don’t think most people understood the reference, haa Any shows coming up soon?
October 23rd: the Punk Rock Flea Market :)
October 30th: Psychedelic Hell Night at Syndicate Lounge with Kikagaku Moyo, GT, and Music Band
December 3rd: Atlantaaa
What is the band working on right now?
finishing our first EP, writing new songs, and planning tour What do y'all do in your SPARE time?
Walker plays in a couple other bands, skates, and makes visual art.
Anna works on music, goes to shows, adventures, and does a little grassroots organizing. What is your all-time favorite album?
I don’t have just one favorite, but if I could only listen to one for the rest of my life, it’d be Boards of Canada’s Geogaddi.
Last words?
¡hasta pronto!
